Located
in Florence, Colorado, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains,
TASROP, Inc. is a veteran-owned small business and
one of the largest capacity powder coating facilities
in Southern Colorado.
Founded by Robert Miller in 1998, TASROP, Inc., has grown
into what is now a full-service machine shop which
expanded its powder
coating capabilities to allow high volume power coating.
In 2002, Miller designed and built the
Save the Water
(STW) recycling system to help save money at his TASROP
powder coating business.
The system reduced his
water usage from 16,000 gallons of water a month to 1,200 gallons/month, and from
3 barrels of chemicals per month to 1 1/2 barrels
per year. This created a 90 percent savings on water
and chemicals.
Tests conducted by independent laboratories have
shown consistent success in lowering the water contaminants
to acceptable levels, according to U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
In 2004, Miller began to promote the new recycling
system to government and industry. In September of
that year, the company was commended by the Colorado
Department of Public Health for the value of its new
technology. It was also notified that EPA's Region
8 is "encouraging all transportation agencies
in Region 8 to use the STW systems."
Since 2004, the STW
system has been used to wash snow plows and heavy
equipment at several state Department of
Transportation (DOT) facilities in Colorado. The
system collects the water/chemical solution from the
wash bay and pumps it into a holding tank, running the
dirty solution through our proprietary filtration
system. The system then recycles the solution so that
it can be used again to wash the next vehicle. The
system is adjusted and customized, according to the
specific needs of each shop.
We have the capability
of setting up in streams before and after fires and
clean them up. We can stop chemicals from going down
the drain. We can reduce chloride (salt) levels.
Wineries, bottle plants, vegetable processing plants,
plastics extrusion plants, manufacturing, auto body
shop, DOT facilities, vehicle repair shops, cooling
towers, uranium processing plants, wall board
processing facilities, dairies and many other entities
can use the savings brought about by this system. So
far, the only limitation we have found for this system
is our imagination.
The costs associated
with purchasing and maintaining the STW Recycling
System are small compared to what has been previously
available - and this cost is decreased further through
additional savings in water and chemicals (and
possibly punitive government fines).
My system filters out
the worst pollutants, but not the required chemicals.
And it works -we have the certified lab results to
prove it.
Water pollution is a serious problem.
TASROP is seeking opportunities to test and promote
our technology and protect our precious natural resources.
